Lead Electronic Hardware Engineer

Allegion is seeking a highly motivated Lead Electronics Hardware Engineer capable of working collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment. The candidate will be expected to lead new product development hardware designs for all project phases. Additionally, the candidate will supervise, coach, and/or mentor hardware engineering team members and increase the team’s overall electrical bench strength in the best practices of design. The candidate selected will need to be an organized self-starter comfortable and effective at working in a fast-paced, global design culture.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Highly motivated with excellent knowledge in low power embedded electronic analog and digital circuit design

  • Must have excellent knowledge in designing embedded system based on Microcontroller/ Microprocessor based systems and associated subsystems such as the power supply, I/O interfaces, displays and communications modules.

  • Capable of providing day to day priorities, direction and oversight to other hardware engineers while leading them in electrical engineering best practices in a motivational and engaging manner

  • Capable of effectively working with all engineering disciplines in a team environment with good understanding of cross functional design processes (high focus on mechanical and firmware)

  • Ability to develop hardware design concepts and architectures for electronic systems

  • Proficiency in engineering computer tools used for schematic capture (Altium Designer is a plus), ECAD design, simulation, and design analysis

  • Experience in designing multi-layer PCB and a good working knowledge in IPC PCB design guidelines

  • Must have experience completing design validation testing such as EMC/EMI, ESD, environmental and durability testing for line powered products

  • Experience with Communications Protocols; UART, SPI, I2C, RS232, USB, Ethernet

  • Proficiency with common laboratory equipment such as hand solder instruments, DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other equipment

  • Must have excellent troubleshooting ability and mentor / coach junior members in best practice design and development techniques

  • Ability to direct and coordinate manufacturing of prototype and production designs

  • Ability to develop and manage a hardware schedule with 80%+ on-time delivery

  • Responsible for leading hardware design reviews and contributing to overall project design reviews

  • Responsibility for delivering technical project documentation

  • Capable of identifying system risks and developing mitigation plans

  • Ability to quickly complete root cause analysis and implement corrective action while balancing project deadlines

  • Implement and ensure adherence to engineering best practices and procedures

  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, must be resourceful and flexible, and actively participate in decision making processes

  • Must be a very good team player

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, effective presentation skills

  • Possesses good organization skills with the ability to contribute to multiple projects

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experienced with PCB layout, fabrication, and assembly processes for mixed signal, high speed designs

  • Experience with ARM and PIC microcontrollers is a required

  • Familiarity with RFID, Proximity, and Smart card technologies is a plus

  • Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, ZigBee and/or radio hardware is a plus

  • Experience designing embedded electronics for harsh environmental conditions is a plus

  • Basic embedded C programming skills to exercise hardware functions is a plus

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS in Electronics or Electrical Engineering

  • 8+ years in new product development

  • Or -

  • MS in Electronics or Electrical Engineering

  • 6+ years in new product development
